David W. Nicklies is the President and CEO of Nicklies Development. Mr. Nicklies began his career in commercial real estate in 1980. He founded Nicklies & Co., Inc. in 1988 to specialize in all aspects of retail, office and industrial real estate brokerage, as well as real estate development in Kentucky and Indiana. In 1997, Nicklies & Co., Inc. became a partner with CB Richard Ellis Partners in Los Angeles, a subsidiary of CB Richard Ellis, the largest commercial real estate brokerage company in the world.
In 2005, David sold his interest in CBRE/Nicklies to devote 100% of his attention to the development business. David has over 30 years of experience in developing real estate, specializing in construction and development of retail, office, industrial and residential real estate, as well as retail sales and leasing. David is a member of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member), Board of Realtors, ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers), and the Winner of the 2012 March of Dimes Commercial Reach Award.
Jim Pope has over 50 years of experience in real estate sales, development and consulting in the Louisville area. As part of the Nicklies team, Mr. Pope brings years of experience in dealing with local government agencies and knowledge of the city and county zoning processes. He is a member of the Louisville Home Builders Association and has developed valuable relationships with local builders and developers over his career in real estate. Prior to joining the Nicklies team, Mr. Pope served as Vice President of a consulting and engineering firm specializing in residential and commercial/industrial real estate development. He has extensive experience in laying out subdivisions to be both efficient and aesthetic for the eventual homeowners. He has acted as the lead engineer or developer for more than 50 subdivisions, ranging in size from 58 homes to 1,098 homes, as well as numerous industrial and commercial sites throughout the country.
Jim coordinates and directs the entitlement and construction of the Company’s development projects from zoning through horizontal and eventual vertical construction. He began working with Nicklies Development in 2001 after spending nearly seven years in Denver, Colorado leading a team of civil engineers for Carter & Burgess, focusing on private land developments, and as Planning Director for the Town of Bennett, Colorado. Prior to Colorado, Jim worked for Southern Indiana Gas Company, and Commonwealth Edison Power and Electric in Chicago coordinating construction restoration activities for underground and overhead electric and gas utilities.
Jim has a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University and a Master’s degree in Environmental Compliance Law and Community Planning from the University of Denver. He is a graduate of Saint Xavier, a two time graduate of Leadership Louisville, and four year participant in the Jefferson County Public School program Everyone Reads.
Charlie Nicklies joined Nicklies Development in 2006 and now serves as the Vice President of Asset Management & is the leasing agent and property manager. Before joining Nicklies Development, Charlie spent 3 years in the Medical Equipment sales field and served as the Vice President of River City Bank for 11 years. In his previous position at River City Bank, he was responsible for branch openings, marketing, loan production, and evaluating construction draws. Charlie is a Member of both the ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) and BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association).
Donna Hindman joined Nicklies Development in March 1997 as a Real Estate Paralegal. Donna began working in the legal profession in 1978 and has worked in a variety of disciplines, including General Law, Criminal Law, Bankruptcy, Corporate Law, and Commercial Real Estate.
In her current position, she has drafted and negotiated leases with such national tenants as Kohl’s, Sherwin Williams, Ford Motor Company, Starbucks, Auto Zone, Great Clips, Radio Shack, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Marshall’s, PetSmart, Kroger, Sofa Express, Rack Room Shoes, Dress Barn, Half Price Books, Factory Card Outlet and KFC, as well as a large number of regional and local retailers.
Lee Mackin joined the Nicklies Development team in 2002 and oversees the Accounting Department. Lee has been in the accounting field since 1984 and has worked in Commercial Real Estate Accounting for over 17 years. At Nicklies Development, Lee oversees all financial reporting, cash management, Tax return preparation, as well as Human Resources.
Shannon Harritt has been in the Real Estate/Property Management field since 1994. She brings 12 years of experience working in Multi-Family Residential Property Management and 9 years in the Commercial Real Estate/Property Management field. Shannon began working for Nicklies Development in 2010 and currently serves as the Operations Manager for the company where she manages tenant relations, office management, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) developing aerials/maps, brochures, and demographics for properties.
Mike Durbin joined the Nicklies Development team in 2012 and brings over 30 years of experience in the Residential Construction field. Mike is a thorough property inspector and currently maintains a variety of properties for Nicklies Development. Though Mike has a very diverse skill set when it comes to residential maintenance, he manages a team of contractors to assist with maintenance on an as-needed basis.
Karie English joined the Nicklies Development team in August of 2014 and brings over 20 years of experience in construction-based accounting. Karie’s main responsibilities for the company include General Accounting and Support and managing the receptionist team.
